 A severe humanitarian crisis is unfolding in the Spanish territory of Ceuta after tens of thousands of asylum seekers crossed from Morocco, leaving hundreds of people—including more than 1,100 unaccompanied children—sleeping on beaches and in makeshift shelters without basic access to food, water, or medical aid following a surge triggered by social media misinformation. As international aid groups struggle to provide relief after a crossing that claimed at least 80 lives, European leaders have turned the emergency into a fierce political debate, prioritizing stricter border controls, migrant deportations, and security measures over immediate humanitarian assistance.
